Security Fears Force Closure Of All Abuja Senior Secondary Schools

According to Ireporter Online, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has ordered the immediate closure of all public senior secondary schools in Abuja due to escalating security concerns. The directive, set to take effect on or before Friday, November 28, was communicated through an internal memo issued by Aishatu Sani Alhassan, Director of School Services at the FCT Secondary Education Board.

The memo, addressed to school principals and heads, instructed that all academic activities must cease immediately and emphasized the importance of a coordinated and safe dismissal of students. Schools have been directed to inform learners, staff, and parents promptly about the closure and to reschedule all affected academic activities accordingly. Unless new instructions are issued, schools are expected to resume on the next official school day.

This measure follows a surge in attacks on schools across Nigeria. On November 12, 25 female students were abducted from Government Girls Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State. Similarly, on November 21, the Niger State government confirmed that bandits abducted several students and staff members from St. Mary’s School in Papiri, Agwara LGA. The Catholic Diocese of Kotangora reported that 315 individuals, including 303 students and 12 teachers, were taken during the attack.
