Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Tuesday declared the Ondo South Senatorial District seat vacant during plenary proceedings.

According to Ireporter Online, the declaration followed the appointment of Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, who previously represented the district, as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

Akpabio, while announcing the vacancy, called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a by-election within 30 days in accordance with constitutional provisions to fill the vacant seat.

He further directed the Clerk of the National Assembly to formally communicate the Senate’s resolution to INEC for immediate action.
