The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, on Saturday joined hundreds of residents in Kano to attend the funeral prayers held in honour of the late elder statesman and prominent businessman, Alhaji Aminu Dantata.

The solemn prayers were led by the Chairman of the Kano State Council of Ullamas, Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil, and conducted at the renowned Bn Abu Thalib Mosque, in line with an earlier announcement by the Council. The rite, known as Sallatul Gaib (prayer for the deceased in the absence of the body), was performed because Dantata’s remains were not present.

Dantata, who passed away in Dubai at the age of 94, had directed in his will that he be buried in Medina, Saudi Arabia, close to the grave of his late wife. Recognising his significant contributions spanning over seven decades, the Council of Ullamas deemed it fitting to organize the special prayers in Kano.

Speaking shortly after the service, Senator Jibrin described Dantata’s death as a profound loss, not only to Kano State but to Nigeria as a whole. He recalled the late icon’s extensive philanthropic work, which had touched millions of lives over the years, and offered prayers for the repose of his soul.
