Seven Coalition Leaders Tipped to Contest Against Tinubu in 2027 — Nwosu

Former National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ralph Nwosu, has disclosed that at least seven top figures within Nigeria’s emerging opposition coalition are being encouraged by supporters to run against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Naija News reports that this coalition, recently led by ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, has formally adopted the ADC as its platform for the next presidential race.

Speaking in an interview with Punch, Nwosu confirmed there is strong grassroots push for prominent leaders to take up the coalition’s ticket, though he emphasized that the selection process would be transparent and inclusive.

According to him, supporters of Atiku, former Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi, ex-governors Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna) and Rauf Aregbesola (Osun), along with those backing Oyo ADC’s 2023 governorship candidate Ganiyu Bamidele Ajadi, are all keen on seeing their leaders emerge.

He further mentioned that Sule Lamido and even the old ADC structure were tilting towards Ajadi, stressing that this demonstrated the coalition’s openness. Nwosu said conversations were ongoing among these camps as the coalition continued to attract defectors from the major parties.

“We all have the right to express ourselves, and that’s the beauty of what we’re building. There are people pushing for Aregbesola, some for Ajadi, others for Amaechi, Atiku, or even El-Rufai. Lamido, too, is in the mix,” Nwosu said.

He added, “As someone involved in these talks, I know who is showing interest. The process will be open and transparent. We’ll soon start seeing the emergence of leadership that can reshape Nigeria from being on life support to global relevance.”

Highlighting the scale of the coalition, Nwosu claimed it had become bigger than any political party in Nigeria within a short time. He asserted that 95% of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) structure had collapsed into the coalition, along with over 35% of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and around 80% of the Labour Party.

“This coalition is not just about politics or power. It’s about rescuing Nigeria. Already, 95% of PDP, 35% of APC, and over 80% of LP are with us,” he maintained.
