A young Nigerian woman working in Egypt has expressed frustration after her brother rejected the ₦50,000 she sent to support his wife’s medical treatment, insisting he expected between ₦500,000 and ₦1 million simply because she works outside the country. According to Ireporter Online, the woman, who is the youngest of seven siblings, explained that her brother contacted her urgently for financial assistance, but dismissed the amount she provided, believing she should be able to send much more.

She disclosed that she lives in Cairo, where she works as a domestic employee earning roughly ₦230,000 per month. She added that her living conditions are modest, noting that she sleeps in her employer’s kitchen and keeps her belongings there as well. The woman further revealed that she only recently completed repayment of the debt owed to the person who financed her trip, leaving her with little savings despite being abroad.

Expressing her disappointment, she emphasized that many people assume anyone outside the country has access to unlimited funds, a misconception that ignores the financial struggles faced by migrant workers. Her comments have since sparked conversations online about expectations placed on Nigerians living overseas.
