According to Ireporter Online, a respected Islamic scholar from Zaria, Sheikh Khalifa Usman Idris, popularly known as Rigi-Rigi, has passed away. The cleric’s death was confirmed on Monday morning by his son-in-law, Malama Abubakar Ɗanyaro, who stated that Sheikh Rigi-Rigi died on Sunday night at a private hospital in Barnawa, Kaduna, after previously receiving treatment at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in the state capital.

“He passed away Sunday night at a private hospital in Kaduna,” Ɗanyaro said. The funeral prayer (Janazah) for the late scholar is scheduled to take place Monday after Asr prayer at his residence in the Kusfa area of Zaria, Kaduna State. Mourners and followers are expected to gather to pay their final respects.

Sheikh Rigi-Rigi was widely known and admired for his engaging and humorous preaching style, which attracted a large following both within and beyond northern Nigeria.

In a separate development, the Federal Medical Centre in Abuja has dismissed allegations of negligence in the death of fast-rising Nigerian singer Ifunanya Lucy Nwagene, popularly known as Nanyah, who died after complications from a snake bite.
