Sh*ckwaves In Bayelsa: Governor Diri Dumps PDP, Welcomed By Shettima To APC In Grand Ceremony

Vice President Kashim Shettima on Monday led a high-powered delegation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to officially receive Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, into the ruling party.

According to Ireporter Online, Shettima departed Abuja alongside several APC governors and top party stalwarts to welcome Governor Diri, marking a major political realignment in the South-South region.

Governor Diri, who recently confirmed his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, had earlier announced his decision during the 14th Bayelsa Thanksgiving Day held at the Ecumenical Centre in Igbogene, Yenagoa. Speaking at the event, the governor described his move as a tough but necessary step taken in the interest of the Bayelsa people.

It was gathered that Diri formally resigned from the PDP on October 15 after weeks of behind-the-scenes consultations and negotiations with key APC figures to perfect his defection process.

Addressing the gathering on Sunday, Governor Diri explained that while some may not immediately comprehend his decision to align with the APC, his reasons would become evident over time. He emphasized that politics should be centered on development and service delivery, assuring that his administration would continue to provide Bayelsans with tangible benefits of democracy.

The governor further expressed gratitude for the peace and stability currently being enjoyed in Bayelsa State, urging citizens to remain thankful for the progress achieved so far.
