Shettima Visits Maiduguri Blast Victims, Reaffirms FG’s Resolve To End Insecurity

According to Ireporter Online, Vice President Kashim Shettima has reiterated the Federal Government’s firm commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the country following the recent bomb explosion at Gamboru Market in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The Vice President gave the assurance on Friday during a visit to survivors of the attack who are receiving medical care at the Muhammadu Buhari Trauma Centre. He conveyed the condolences of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government to those affected by the incident.

Addressing the victims after inspecting their condition, Shettima described the attack as an act of senseless violence and stressed that the government remains determined to bring insecurity in Borno State and other parts of Nigeria to an end. He assured residents that the administration would not relent in its responsibility to protect citizens and restore lasting peace.

He noted that his visit was aimed at sympathising with the victims and reassuring Nigerians that the government remains resolute in confronting security challenges. The Vice President expressed confidence that ongoing efforts would yield positive results, adding that the wave of violence would soon be curtailed.

Shettima, who was visibly touched by the condition of those on admission, also praised Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, for his relentless commitment to addressing security and humanitarian concerns in the state. He assured that the Federal Government would continue to strengthen cooperation with the state government to achieve sustainable peace and stability.

Emphasising unity, the Vice President stated that Nigerians remain bound together by a shared destiny, standing together in moments of triumph as well as adversity.

During the visit, the Chief Medical Director of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital briefed the Vice President, disclosing that 14 victims were brought in after the blast, with one person confirmed dead shortly after arrival. He added that seven patients are still receiving treatment, including one in critical condition at the intensive care unit, while five others have been treated and discharged.
