Shock Move As Ondo Labour Party’s No. 2 Candidate Crosses Over To APC

The political landscape of Ondo State witnessed a major shake-up on Monday as the Deputy Governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the forthcoming November 16 governorship election.Hon. Dayo Awude, led hundreds of defectors from the Labour Party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Social Democratic Party (SDP) into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to Ireporter Online, the rally to welcome the new members was held in Akure, the state capital, and drew a large crowd of APC faithful celebrating the mass defection.

Prominent among the defectors were Hon. Suffy Uguogi, a PDP chieftain from Ese-Odo Local Government Area, who led the PDP’s southern senatorial district contingent, and Hon. Dele Ogunbameru, former Secretary of the SDP in Ondo State, who coordinated the SDP members’ crossover to the APC. Speaking on behalf of all defectors, Awude—who once served as Chief of Protocol to former Governor Olusegun Mimiko—praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership style and Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s performance, saying these were key motivators for their decision.

According to Ireporter Online, Awude described President Tinubu’s track record as “laudable,” commending his courage in tackling Nigeria’s economic challenges and implementing bold reforms aimed at ensuring sustainable development. He assured the APC of their commitment to work tirelessly towards Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

Awude further explained that the decision to switch allegiance followed “extensive consultations and personal reflection.” According to Ireporter Online, he pledged that he and his supporters would contribute meaningfully to strengthening the APC’s dominance in the state and beyond.
