Shockwaves in PDP: Osun Senator Fadeyi-Ajagunla Dumps Party Over Deep Factional Crisis
Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi-Ajagunla, the representative of Osun Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), adding to the wave of defections rocking the party in Osun State. The resignation, which has stirred political tension across the state, comes barely days after Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi of Osun East also severed ties with the PDP over deep-rooted disagreements with its leadership.
According to iReporter Online, Fadeyi-Ajagunla submitted his resignation through a letter dated June 12, 2025, which was addressed to the PDP Ward 3 Chairman in Oke-Ejigbo, Ila-Orangun. The senator cited irreconcilable differences and factional divisions within the party, exacerbated by multiple legal battles that have plagued the PDP for over three years.
In the letter, Fadeyi-Ajagunla expressed that the decision followed wide consultations with his political allies, family members, and other stakeholders. He described the internal disputes within the PDP as “irreparable,” lamenting the deep fractures at the national level, which, he claimed, had rendered the party structurally unstable.
Fadeyi-Ajagunla thanked the party officials in advance for accepting his resignation and emphasized that his departure was a matter of principle, not sentiment. His exit is being viewed by political watchers as a significant blow to the PDP’s already fragile unity in Osun State.
The development, According to Ireporter Online, is expected to trigger a fresh wave of realignments and defections, as the crisis within the party continues to deepen ahead of the 2027 general elections. With two prominent senators from the state exiting within weeks, the PDP now faces mounting pressure to reconcile warring factions and restore internal cohesion before more high-profile figures abandon ship.
