Super Eagles Shift Friendlies To Turkey Over Middle East Tensions

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are set to face Jordan and Iran in Turkey later this month after organizers relocated the planned international friendlies from Amman due to escalating tensions in the Middle East.

Originally scheduled for the Jordanian capital, the matches have been moved to the Turkish city of Antalya amid security concerns and travel restrictions across the region.

Nigeria will kick off its two-match schedule against Iran on Friday, 27 March, before taking on Jordan four days later on Tuesday, 31 March. Both games will now be played in Antalya, rather than the initially planned venue in Amman.

The first friendly will see Nigeria face Iran while Jordan meets Costa Rica. The series concludes on 31 March, with the Super Eagles playing Jordan and Iran taking on Costa Rica.

These fixtures provide the Nigerian coaching staff an opportunity to evaluate the squad and fine-tune strategies ahead of upcoming international competitions. Likewise, Iran, Jordan, and Costa Rica are expected to use the matches to sharpen their squads as preparations intensify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

While Iran has secured World Cup qualification, reports indicate that the team may withdraw due to ongoing conflicts involving Israel and the United States, the latter of which is co-hosting the tournament.
