According to Ireporter Online, Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has formally registered as a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a significant milestone in his transition to the ruling party. The registration exercise took place on Sunday at the Government House in Jalingo, where he was officially enrolled by executives of the APC Hospital Ward in the presence of party leaders and officials.

After receiving his APC membership card, the governor explained that while his official defection ceremony had earlier been postponed, he deemed it necessary to complete the registration process in order to actively participate in party affairs within the state. He noted that the earlier suspension of the planned reception was influenced by national concerns, particularly the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State.

Governor Kefas stated that he had already communicated with the party at the ward level, describing the registration as a fundamental requirement that must be fulfilled regardless of any formal ceremony. He expressed appreciation to ward executives and representatives of the party’s state working committee for their support and presence during the exercise.

The governor further explained that his decision to align with the APC was guided by the broader interest of governance and party development in Taraba State. He emphasised that the move would promote stronger cooperation and help consolidate the party’s grassroots structure across the state.

Kefas also disclosed that a new date for his official reception into the APC would be announced to the public at a later time.

The governor’s registration comes against the backdrop of ongoing political realignments in Taraba State ahead of future electoral contests. In recent weeks, several key political figures, including members of the State Executive Council, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Izito Benzena, and 14 lawmakers from the Taraba State House of Assembly, have also defected to the APC, signalling a growing shift in the state’s political landscape.
