Armed attackers, believed to be members of the notorious Lakurawa terrorist group, reportedly launched a violent assault on Zagami village in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State on Sunday, abducting several Christian worshippers during a church service.

Sources indicate the assailants arrived on motorcycles, stormed the church mid-service, and opened fire indiscriminately, throwing the congregation into panic before whisking away an unspecified number of worshippers into a nearby forest.

One of the survivors, Ezekiel Danjuma, who narrowly escaped the attack, recounted the horror to journalists. According to him, the attackers came in large numbers and surrounded the church before launching their onslaught.

“It was terrifying. They came shooting and forced their way into the church. Some of us escaped through the back, but many others were taken,” Danjuma told Daily Post on Monday.

The incident has left Zagami, a peaceful farming community in Kebbi South Senatorial District, deeply shaken. The district encompasses seven LGAs: Danko/Wasagu, Fakai, Ngaski, Sakaba, Shanga, Yauri, and Zuru.
