According to Ireporter Online, the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed recent criticisms by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s trip to Europe, describing the remarks as misleading and rooted in political mischief.

Reacting to the comments, the party said it was unsurprised that the ADC had chosen to attack the President, noting that whenever confronted with focused governance, strategic leadership and result-oriented diplomacy, the opposition often resorts to what it termed misinformation and shallow politics.

In a statement issued in Ogba, Lagos, the APC spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, stressed that modern governance goes beyond physical presence within national borders. He explained that in a globally connected world, responsible leadership requires continuous engagement with international partners, investors, development agencies and strategic allies.

Oladejo stated that President Tinubu’s European engagements are aimed at promoting Nigeria’s economic interests, deepening bilateral relationships, attracting foreign investments and strengthening the country’s global standing. He dismissed claims that the trip was merely ceremonial, insisting it was part of a broader effort to advance national development objectives.

The party further noted that governance does not pause simply because the President is outside the country, emphasizing that the machinery of government continues to function through clear policy direction, delegated authority and strong institutions. It added that only those lacking a proper understanding of leadership would assume that effective governance is limited to physical presence at home.

According to the APC, the ADC’s focus on the President’s travel schedule highlights its lack of substantive ideas, arguing that the party has failed to present Nigerians with viable alternatives on the economy, security or development. The statement described the criticism as an indication of an opposition struggling to grasp the realities of contemporary governance.

The APC also pointed out that some of those now criticizing foreign trips had previously remained silent during periods of excessive international travels that delivered little value to the country. In contrast, it said President Tinubu’s engagements abroad are clearly tied to Nigeria’s economic recovery plans, foreign direct investment drive, energy transition agenda, infrastructure financing and renewed global relevance.

Oladejo added that Nigerians could clearly distinguish between a President actively working at home and abroad to reposition the nation and an opposition fixated on distractions and headline-seeking tactics. He urged opposition parties to present serious and constructive alternatives as the country looks ahead with cautious optimism.

He concluded by affirming that the Renewed Hope Agenda represents an ongoing process anchored on bold domestic reforms and purposeful international engagement, noting that President Tinubu remains firmly in charge, deliberate in action and committed to advancing the interests of Nigeria and its people.
