Tinubu Requests Senate Approval For Oyedele As Minister Of State For Finance

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday formally requested the Senate to confirm Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance. The request was conveyed in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and read during the day’s plenary session. According to Ireporter Online, Tinubu urged the Senate to expedite the screening and confirmation of Oyedele.

Following the reading of the letter, the Senate referred the request to the Committee of the Whole for immediate consideration. During the same plenary, Akpabio also read three additional letters from the President seeking approval for other key appointments.

One letter sought the confirmation of Mainasara Ilo as Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Anti-Doping Centre for an initial tenure of four years. The nomination was subsequently referred to the Committee on Narcotics and Sports for further legislative action.

In another letter, Tinubu submitted nominations to the Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), proposing Magnus Abe as chairman and Jossy Yaro and Sunday Adebayo as non-executive commissioners. The Senate referred these nominations to the Committee on Petroleum (Upstream), with a directive to submit its report within one week.

Additionally, Tinubu announced nominees for the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, naming Amina Gamawa of Bauchi State and Abdulahi Muktar of Kaduna State as commissioners. The matter was referred to the Senate Committee on National Planning for review and report within one week.

Meanwhile, the Senate adjourned Tuesday’s plenary to Wednesday, March 11, to honor the late Rivers South-East Senator Barinada Mpigi, who passed away in the United Kingdom after a protracted illness. Lawmakers suspended proceedings for the day as a mark of respect.
