Tinubu Signs Tax Bills, FIRS Renamed Nigeria Revenue Service
The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has officially been renamed the Nigeria Revenue Service following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s approval of four significant tax reform bills.
According to Daily Post, the bills signed into law on Thursday include the Nigeria Tax Bill, the Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, the Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Bill, and the Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Bill.
President Tinubu explained that the tax reform legislation is aimed at providing much-needed tax relief for low-income Nigerians, families, and small businesses struggling to survive in the current economic climate.
He described the new laws as the first major pro-people tax cuts in the nation’s recent history and emphasized that they will mark the beginning of a new phase of economic revitalization.
Implementation of the tax reforms is scheduled to begin on January 1, 2026.
