According to reports, the Nigerian Armed Forces have concluded investigations into 16 military officers previously arrested over breaches of service regulations and acts of indiscipline. The Director of Defence Information, Maj.-Gen. Samaila Uba, stated on Monday that some officers have been identified as having cases to answer and will face trial before military judicial panels. Investigations examined the conduct of personnel, including allegations related to plotting to overthrow the government, described by the military as inconsistent with its professional standards. Uba emphasized that the actions are disciplinary and aimed at maintaining cohesion and operational effectiveness, reaffirming the Armed Forces’ commitment to professionalism and constitutional authority.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Ankara, Turkey, on a state visit. A presidential spokesperson confirmed that Tinubu was received at Ankara Esenboğa Airport by a Turkish government delegation led by the Minister of National Education, Yusuf Tekin, alongside Nigerian embassy officials. The visit seeks to strengthen bilateral relations and explore areas of mutual cooperation, including the signing of Memoranda of Understanding, with discussions planned with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied reports suggesting Vice President Kashim Shettima might be replaced as President Tinubu’s running mate ahead of the 2027 elections. Immediate past APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje has assured Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of victory in the 2027 governorship election following Yusuf’s defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the APC. In Anambra State, the government has ordered the closure of Onitsha Main Market for one week in response to traders’ compliance with an illegal sit-at-home directive. Authorities warned that if the market does not fully reopen, the shutdown could be extended to one month. Officials described the directive as economic sabotage and stressed the government’s determination to restore lawful commercial activity.
