Tragedy Strikes UNIMED: Police Confirm Brutal Assassination Of Registrar
The Ondo State Police Command has officially confirmed the assassination of Mr. Ezekiel Imoleayo Adeniran, the Registrar of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, sparking widespread grief within the academic community.
According to iReporter Online, the confirmation was made by the command’s spokesperson, SP Olusola Ayanlade, who disclosed in a phone interview that the incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, July 17, 2025. The case was initially reported at the Fanibi Division in Akure.
“I can confirm to you that the man was killed. From the information at my disposal, two men emerged from the bush and forcibly introduced a substance into another person’s mouth. However, I cannot verify if the substance was poisonous—only an autopsy will determine that,” Ayanlade explained.
He further stated that the case has now been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a more detailed inquiry. He urged anyone with useful information about the perpetrators of this heinous act to assist the police.
According to iReporter Online, the late Mr. Adeniran had assumed office as the third substantive Registrar of UNIMED on January 6, 2025. His sudden demise, barely six months into his tenure, has thrown the university into mourning.
In a separate confirmation, the university’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Isaac Oluyi, described the development as devastating. He noted that Mr. Adeniran was last seen at his desk on Monday, July 14, and that the cause of his death remains unknown pending autopsy results.
According to iReporter Online, Mr. Adeniran’s remains have since been deposited in a hospital morgue as the university and the police continue to await forensic findings that may offer clarity on the nature of the attack.
The brutal killing has sent shockwaves across the state, as stakeholders and sympathizers call for a swift and thorough investigation to bring the culprits to justice.
