According to reports by Daily Trust, the confrontation ensued when customs officers attempted to stop a truck driver ferrying passengers to Dankama town. However, when the driver refused to halt, one of the armed customs officers allegedly fired a shot, hitting a passenger in the waist.

Following the shooting, the truck finally came to a stop, prompting the passengers to disembark and confront the customs officers. In a surge of anger, they turned on the shooter, leading to a violent altercation that resulted in the death of the customs officer. The identity and rank of the deceased officer remained undisclosed at the time of reporting.

Tragically, another casualty emerged from the chaos. Bashir Na-Buzuwa, a 27-year-old man from Doro town in Bindawa LGA, residing at Zanguna in Katsina city, succumbed to injuries sustained from the gunshot wound.

Confirming the grim incident, the Customs Public Relations Officer in Katsina State, SC Tahir Balarabe, stated that an official statement regarding the matter would be issued by the Service. Efforts were underway to evacuate the remains of the fallen colleague amidst the somber aftermath of the confrontation.
