Two Robbery Suspects Arrested With 23 Mobile Phones (Photo)

The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested two suspects specialised in dealing in stolen mobile phones.

The suspects were allegedly in possession of twenty-three (23) stolen android mobile phones.

A statement by SP Asinim Butswat, the state Police Public Relations Officer, said the suspects – Yusuf Abubakar ‘m’ 51 years old and Lawali Aliyu ‘m’ 40 years old – were arrested by SWAT Operatives, at Akenfa, Yenagoa on March 14, 2021, at about 1400 hours, while conveying the phones to Kano State, in a Toyota Hiace bus with registration No. DUT 37 ZB.

He said the state police commissioner, Mike Okoli, has called on members of the public whose phones were stolen recently to contact the police command for possible identification and recovery.

Meanwhile, an investigation is ongoing to unravel the source of the stolen android phones.

Gunmen suspected to be bandits have killed a young man identified as Francis Jonathan Ayuba, five days to his wedding in Kaduna state.

According to his friends, the deceased was set to tie the knot with his fiancée on Saturday, April 17, 2021.

He was killed when bandits attacked Wawan Rafi II village, in the Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna state on April 12.

A friend of the deceased, identified as Mc Cm on Facebook wrote, “You talked to me about your wedding on the 17/04/2021(this Saturday) and I told you I was booked already…5 days to your wedding, Fulani attacked your village, Wawan Rafi and you are no more…Hmmmmmm Rayuwa. Francis Jonathan, may God rest your soul..Amen. My condolences to your wife to be and your family.”

Another Facebook user, Paul Dogo, described the deceased as a gentle and calm young man.

“We lost a friend, a brother, a colleague in Keke business, gentle, calm young man and 3 others when Fulani bandits attacked Wawan Rafi village in Zango Kataf LGA in the early hours of Monday.

“This is 5 days to his wedding. We are hurt to our bone marrow. May their souls rest in peace and may God protest us against evil that be devilled our country,” he wrote.

Kaduna state commissioner for internal security and home affairs, Samuel Aruwan had earlier in a statement confirmed the attack on Wawan Rafi II village.

Aruwan said three other persons persons were killed.

He identified the other deceased as Florence Dennis, Joshua Dauda and his 7-year-old son, Philip Dauda.

He also disclosed that seven houses, one car and one motorcycle were burnt in the attack.

Naval officer stabs Airforce soldier after catching

A naval officer with the Eastern Naval Command in Sekondi has angrily inflicted knife wounds on a fellow Airforce soldier.

The officer, Leading Seaman Umar Sahid Abubakar reportedly stabbed the left upper cheek and back waist of one Bernard Ababio, who is an Airforce soldier for having slept with his wife.

Umar has been detained at the Naval Base in Sekondi for inflicting knife wounds on the left upper cheek and back waist of the Airforce personnel.

According to a report filed by Starr News, Umar lost his temper after he caught Ababio in his matrimonial bed sleeping with his wife, Linda Akosua Buabeng.

The report further indicated that Umar was at the Sekondi Police station to lodge a complaint against Bernard Ababio for biting his index finger after confronting him when he caught Ababio in the act.

While writing his statement, Bernard also arrived at the same Sekondi police station to lodge a case of assault, and that was when Abubakar was arrested.

The victim, Bernard Ababio, was given a police medical form for treatment.

The Bayelsa State Police Command, on Tuesday, arrested one Solomon Ibe, 43 years, and Chris Amuka 23 years at Ovom Waterside, Yenagoa.

The suspects were arrested for allegedly possessing 125 rounds of live ammunition.

SP Asinim Butswat, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), said the suspects were arrested while trying to ferry one bag of weed, suspected to be Indian hemp, to the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.

Butswat added that they were assisting the police in their investigations.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa Command, Mr Mike Okoli, has urged the public to continue to assist the police with useful information to curtail crime in the State.
