Tyla Triumphs At Grammys, Beats Burna Boy, Davido & Ayra Starr For Best African Music Performance

According to music industry reports, South African singer Tyla has won the Best African Music Performance at the 2026 Grammy Awards, surpassing top Nigerian artists in a highly competitive category. The award was announced at the ceremony held on February 2, 2026.

Tyla secured the accolade with her hit track Push 2 Start, finishing ahead of Burna Boy’s Love, Davido and Omah Lay’s With You, Ayra Starr and Wizkid’s Gimme Dat, as well as Hope & Love by Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin.

The category, established to elevate African music on the global stage, featured a strong Nigerian presence. However, Nigerian artists were unable to claim any wins, including in the Best Global Music Album category, where Burna Boy’s No Sign of Weakness lost to Brazilian legends Caetano Veloso and Maria Bethânia’s Caetano e Bethânia Ao Vivo.

Tyla’s victory marks her second win in the Best African Music Performance category, having previously claimed the award in 2024 with Water, making her the first artist to ever win the honor. The 24-year-old singer and songwriter is recognized for her unique fusion of amapiano, pop, and R&B sounds.
