Tyson Fury Casts Doubt On Joshua’s Punch Resistance
Tyson Fury has reignited his long-running rivalry with Anthony Joshua, casting fresh doubts over the former unified champion’s punch resistance ahead of a potential all-British heavyweight showdown later in the year.
According to Ireporter Online, Fury drew attention to Daniel Dubois’ recent performances following the WBO heavyweight champion’s 11th-round stoppage victory over Fabio Wardley in Manchester. In a video posted on Instagram, Fury analysed Dubois’ knockout history while comparing it to his brutal encounter with Joshua.
Fury noted that Dubois had managed to stop fighters such as Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic, and Oleksandr Usyk without scoring knockdowns, suggesting a contrast in outcomes when the same fighter faced Joshua.
“Well, I’ve just been sat here thinking after Dubois’ unbelievable fight last night,” Fury said. “Dubois fought ‘Big Baby’ Miller, stopped him, but never put him down. Then he fought Hrgovic, stopped him, but never put him down. He fought Wardley last night in an unbelievable fight, stopped him, and never put him down. He hit Usyk with some big bombs, never put him over.
“But yet he fights Anthony Joshua and pummels him to the floor five times. I’m not saying Anthony Joshua’s chinless, but they’re the facts. Take it as you wish and as you will. Everybody else never went over. Not a singular person, ‘Big Baby’ Miller, Hrgovic, Usyk, or Wardley, but Joshua goes down five times. Chinny!”
Fury’s remarks referenced Dubois’ dominant display against Joshua in their IBF title clash in September 2024, where Joshua was dropped multiple times before being stopped in the fifth round. The comparison has now become a central talking point in Fury’s pre-fight psychological build-up.
The highly anticipated Fury vs Joshua showdown is tentatively scheduled for the final quarter of 2026, although it remains dependent on Joshua’s next assignment. The former champion is expected to face Kristian Prenga on July 25 in Riyadh, a fight widely seen as a must-win, as promoters Eddie Hearn and Frank Warren have indicated that any defeat would collapse plans for the mega-fight.
