US Embassy Releases Remaining 2026 Holiday Calendar For Nigeria Operations

According to a statement released by the US diplomatic missions in Nigeria, consular services and other regular operations will not be available on the affected dates, with applicants advised to plan their appointments accordingly.

The first scheduled closure will take place on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, in celebration of Eid-El-Maulud, a Nigerian public holiday marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad.

The diplomatic missions will also shut their offices on Monday, September 7, to observe the United States Labour Day holiday, while operations will be suspended again on Thursday, October 1, in recognition of Nigeria’s Independence Day.

Further closures are expected on Monday, October 12, for Columbus Day in the United States, and Wednesday, November 11, for Veterans Day.

The US Embassy and Consulate General will also remain closed on Thursday, November 26, for Thanksgiving Day before another holiday break on Friday, December 25, for Christmas Day.

The final closure for the year is scheduled for Saturday, December 26, to mark Boxing Day, a public holiday observed in Nigeria.

The missions advised individuals seeking visa appointments, passport services, notarial assistance and other consular services to take note of the dates and schedule visits outside the affected periods.

However, the US diplomatic missions stated that emergency assistance for American citizens would continue to be available throughout the holiday periods despite the suspension of routine public services.
