“‘Very Sad,’ Yemi Solade Cries Out As Nollywood Fails To Honour Late Chief Kanran”

Veteran actor Yemi Solade has voiced deep disappointment over the poor turnout of Nollywood stars at the burial of the late Segun Remi, widely known as Chief Kanran. According to Ireporter Online, the veteran thespian, who passed away on August 15 at the age of 70, was laid to rest on Friday at his residence in Beckley Estate, Abule Egba, Lagos, following a wake-keep and service of songs held a day earlier.

The ceremonies were marked by emotional scenes, as Chief Kanran’s elder sister broke down in tears and nearly collapsed upon sighting his remains in the coffin. Despite the touching atmosphere, only a handful of actors reportedly attended the rites to honour him.

Reacting to the situation, Solade took to Instagram on Saturday, where he shared a photo of the late actor and lamented the lack of solidarity among colleagues. He stressed that Chief Kanran, who made remarkable contributions to Nollywood, deserved far more recognition from his peers.

In his words, the low attendance revealed a painful reality in the industry—that those who are not materially blessed are often overlooked. He described the absence of many Nollywood stars at the funeral, service of songs, and artistes’ night as “very sad and appalling,” while urging those who attended to reflect on the lesson of honouring one another in life and death.
