According to Ireporter Online, Werder Bremen have suffered another major setback ahead of their Bundesliga clash with VfB Stuttgart, as forward Victor Boniface has been ruled out after sustaining a knee injury during training.

The Nigerian striker, currently on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, reportedly suffered a knee contusion earlier in the week following a collision in training. Head coach Horst Steffen confirmed on Friday that the incident involved a knee-to-knee challenge, noting that the impact caused significant discomfort for the player.

While the club has yet to announce the exact length of his recovery period, early indications suggest Boniface could miss more than just the weekend fixture. His time at Bremen has been challenging so far, with the 24-year-old still searching for form and yet to score this season.

His setback comes shortly after he was excluded from Nigeria’s final 28-man squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, despite initially making the provisional 54-man list released by coach Eric Chelle.

Boniface’s injury adds to Bremen’s growing list of absentees, with Mitchell Weiser, Felix Agu, and Maximilian Wöber all sidelined with long-term concerns. The mounting injury crisis leaves Steffen with limited options as the team enters a crucial stage of the campaign, likely forcing tactical adjustments in the weeks ahead.
