VIDEO: Deadly Explosion Hits Maiduguri Market Mosque During Prayers
Several worshippers were killed on Wednesday when an explosive device detonated inside a mosque at Gamborun Market in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State. The blast occurred during prayer time, sending shockwaves of panic through the busy market.
Eyewitnesses told Ireporter Online that the explosion tore through a section of the mosque, killing some instantly and injuring many others. Traders and residents fled the scene as thick smoke enveloped the area, while some rushed to aid victims before emergency responders arrived.
Security personnel quickly cordoned off the vicinity to prevent further casualties and to conduct preliminary assessments of the damage. Authorities have yet to confirm the exact number of casualties.
