Warri-Itakpe Train Derailment Claims 3 Lives, Presidency Confirms (Photos)

No fewer than three passengers have been confirmed dead following the derailment of the Warri–Itakpe Train Service (WITS) in Agbor, Delta State, on Monday.

According to official reports, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) confirmed that the incident occurred along the Warri–Itakpe rail corridor, prompting the immediate deployment of emergency response teams and other relevant authorities to the scene to provide rescue operations and assistance to affected passengers.

The corporation disclosed that it is closely monitoring the situation and assured the public that a comprehensive statement would be released as more details emerge. The initial confirmation was contained in a statement issued by the NRC’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Kayode Opeifa, who noted that emergency personnel were actively managing the situation.

Subsequently, an update from the Presidency confirmed that three passengers lost their lives in the tragic incident. The statement revealed that rescue efforts were swiftly activated and that all passengers aboard the train had been accounted for.

Authorities stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the derailment while support continues to be provided to survivors and affected families.
