We Welcome America’s Support’ – Ndume Speaks On Anti-Insurgency War

Ali Ndume has commended the United States for its recent support in Nigeria’s fight against insurgency, describing the development as timely and strategic.

According to Ireporter Online, the lawmaker representing Borno South made the remarks during an appearance on Channels Television on Friday, where he emphasized that Nigeria requires broad international collaboration to effectively defeat insurgent groups threatening national security.

Ndume stated that successive efforts had been made over the years to secure assistance from the United States, noting that previous attempts did not yield the desired outcome. He, however, described the current support as a significant breakthrough and urged authorities to maximize the opportunity.

He further explained that one of the major challenges confronting Nigeria’s counterinsurgency operations has been the lack of critical resources. With the United States now providing key resources at no cost, the senator expressed optimism that the partnership would strengthen the country’s military capacity.

Clarifying concerns about the role of American forces, Ndume stressed that U.S. personnel are not engaged in direct combat operations. Instead, he noted that their involvement is limited to offering technological assistance and specialized training to Nigerian troops.

The senator also underscored that the foreign troops are operating under the supervision and command structure of the Nigerian Army, reinforcing that the country retains full operational control over its security efforts.
