According to Ireporter Online, Nigerian singer Simi has sparked widespread online discussion following her candid remarks on pregnancy, childbirth, and the importance of supporting mothers.

The singer, who recently welcomed a child with her husband, fellow musician Adekunle Gold, questioned the frequent focus on fathers during pregnancy and labor. She argued that the physical and emotional toll of childbirth is often overlooked.

“Some men will say, why is it that when a woman is pregnant or she’s giving birth, nobody asks after the daddy? It’s on sight. Are you listening? How is the daddy? What happened to the daddy?” Simi said, highlighting her perspective as a recent mother.

Speaking from personal experience, Simi emphasized that childbirth is not a moment for comparison. She described the significant physical changes women endure, asking rhetorically about the pain, tearing, and stitching involved during delivery.

She also detailed the sacrifices required during pregnancy, including nutrient depletion, swelling, prolonged nausea, medical complications, and potential risks to a woman’s life. Simi dismissed repeated questions regarding fathers, insisting the focus should remain on mothers. “Have you risked your life? Have you had multiple children? Stop asking how’s the daddy? How is the daddy?” she stated.

Simi’s remarks have ignited conversations about maternal care and recognition, prompting many to reflect on the physical and emotional challenges of pregnancy and childbirth.
