Why US President Donald Trump Says He Won’t Attend His Son’s Wedding

The president explained that official responsibilities and pressing national matters in Washington, D.C., would prevent him from travelling for the family event. He stated that his duties to the United States government required his continued presence at the White House during a critical period.

Trump made the announcement via a post on Truth Social on Friday, May 22, where he expressed regret over missing the ceremony but emphasized that national interests must take priority. He also extended his congratulations to the couple ahead of their wedding.

In his message, he wrote that while he would have loved to be present for his son and his soon-to-be daughter-in-law, circumstances relating to governance and his commitment to the country made it impossible for him to attend. He added that remaining in Washington was necessary given ongoing governmental issues requiring immediate attention.

Earlier, the president had hinted at the possibility of missing the ceremony while speaking to journalists, noting that the wedding coincided with significant policy and security concerns, including developments involving Iran and other state matters. He also remarked that the event was expected to be a private gathering and acknowledged that any decision he made would likely attract media scrutiny.

The wedding will be Donald Trump Jr.’s second marriage. He was previously married to Vanessa Trump, with whom he shares five children. Their marriage ended in 2018 during Donald Trump’s first term in office.
