The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the only presidential candidate capable of securing victory in Rivers State during the 2027 general election.

According to Ireporter Online, Wike made the assertion on Tuesday during the August edition of his monthly media chat in Abuja, where he urged political observers to exclude Rivers State from their electoral calculations unless they were counting votes for President Tinubu.

The former Rivers State governor said his position was based on his understanding of the state’s political landscape, insisting that he was speaking from experience rather than personal opinion.

Wike also disclosed that a broad political coalition made up of members from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Labour Party (LP), the Action Alliance (AA), and other political groups had come together to support Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

He explained that the alliance intends to field and support candidates for the National Assembly and the Rivers State House of Assembly based on their popularity and acceptability rather than their political party affiliations. According to him, candidates endorsed by the coalition should be seen as representatives of the alliance rather than individual political parties.

The minister stated that the coalition’s primary objective is to deliver victory for Tinubu in Rivers State, adding that the movement has continued to gain momentum across the state.

Wike dismissed suggestions that the alliance was designed to advance the interests of any particular political party, stressing that his priority remains the development and political relevance of Rivers State. He argued that maintaining a strong relationship with the Federal Government would enable the state to attract more infrastructure projects and other developmental benefits for its residents.

Reflecting on his political career, Wike maintained that his decades of experience in public service and partisan politics have given him a deep understanding of political leadership and grassroots mobilisation. He said his influence in Rivers State is rooted in the trust and confidence many residents have placed in his leadership over the years.

The FCT Minister also recalled the 2019 governorship election in Rivers State, alleging that the Federal Government deployed a heavy security presence during the poll. He claimed that despite the circumstances, his political camp remained resilient and successfully navigated the challenges to achieve its objectives.
