Wike Insists Tinubu Must Serve Entire Eight-Year Presidency

According to Ireporter Online, Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has reaffirmed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reelection in 2027, emphasizing that the Southern presidency should complete an eight-year term before power returns to the North.

Wike stressed the importance of honoring political agreements, noting that backing President Tinubu is a matter of principle rather than party affiliation. “The South must complete their eight years, and completing the eight years it doesn’t matter which party we belong to, give Mr. President the support to succeed,” he said. He added that the country can then determine its next political course in 2031.

The minister also criticized individuals who remained inactive during the 2023 elections but now claim allegiance to the President. He warned that such “emergency supporters” cannot manipulate genuine supporters of Tinubu. “For us here, agreement is agreement. You can be signing on your mandate we shall stand, in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which is good because we have been supporting the President since 2023; your new sloganeering won’t help you,” Wike stated.

During visits to Emohua and Ikwerre local government areas in Rivers State, Wike reminded his followers of their early support for Tinubu when the outcome of the 2023 elections was uncertain. Highlighting the risks his supporters took, he recalled that the significant votes that secured Tinubu’s victory in Rivers came largely from the Ikwerre community. “When it mattered most, we stood on his mandate, not these people now coming to shout on your mandate. You take stands when things are tough, not when food is ready,” he noted.
