Wike’s Camp Lists Tough Conditions For Reconciliation

According to Ireporter Online, the National Secretary of the Wike-backed National Caretaker Committee, Samuel Anyanwu, said the party was gradually moving beyond its internal crisis, adding that the group associated with Tanimu Turaki could no longer be considered a distinct faction within the party.

Speaking during a media interview, Anyanwu explained that discussions around reconciliation had begun, noting that the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, had initiated outreach efforts to mend fences. However, he emphasized that Wike and his allies would only embrace reconciliation that is genuine and driven by sincere commitment to resolve the dispute.

He further stated that the party leadership now recognizes a single structure under the caretaker committee’s chairman, expressing confidence that a new National Working Committee would emerge soon after the planned convention.

Anyanwu also disclosed that preparations for the convention were already in full swing and that the exercise would hold as scheduled, signaling the faction’s determination to move forward with party activities.

In a similar vein, the Chairman of the PDP in Osun State, Sunday Bisi, reiterated that members loyal to Wike remained open to reconciliation but insisted that such talks must not disrupt the convention timetable or the current caretaker leadership.

Bisi revealed that Wike had clearly stated that the convention date was non-negotiable and that the caretaker committee members would remain in place until the process is concluded. He noted that party congresses were already ongoing in several states across the country, making it impractical to halt the process at this stage.

He added that although the camp was willing to engage in discussions with opposing members, the convention preparations would continue without interruption. According to him, those seeking reconciliation would be welcomed to dialogue over positions in the National Working Committee, stressing that the group believes it is negotiating from a position of strength.
