“With The Way The World Is Going, Nigerians Must Embrace Polygamy – Bimbo Akintola Declares”

Veteran Nollywood actress Bimbo Akintola has called on Nigerians to embrace polygamy, stressing that it has always been a part of the country’s cultural heritage. Speaking during a recent interview, the 55-year-old actress reflected on how polygamy was widely practiced among Yoruba families in the past, with many men having more than one wife.

According to Ireporter Online, Akintola noted that the present reality of men being fewer in number compared to women makes polygamy a practical option, suggesting that two women sharing one husband could bring balance. She recounted the story of a woman who introduced a second wife into her marriage to reduce pressure from her husband’s sexual demands, explaining that such decisions often help preserve peace in households.

The actress maintained that some women willingly welcome a co-wife, especially when it provides harmony at home. She further emphasized that parents who strongly prefer monogamy should instead focus on raising disciplined sons with good values, adding that many men who cheat or drift into polygamy lacked proper upbringing in respect and self-control.

Akintola remarked that while polygamy may come with disadvantages, it remains deeply rooted in Nigeria’s traditions and still has its advantages. In her words, “With the way the world is going, people should embrace polygamy. Statistics show we don’t have enough men, so why not two women to one man? Most of Generation X, Yorubas, and even our parents grew up in polygamous homes. It was normal.”

She added that women themselves sometimes take the initiative to bring in a second wife, citing her acquaintance who, to safeguard her health and peace, arranged a marriage for her husband due to their mismatched libidos.
