Edo Like Mind Movement Condemns #Xenophobic Attacks, Commend FG Over Actions Taken.

A socio-political pressure group in Edo State, Edo Like Mind Movement,ELM has strongly condemned the recent xenophobic attacks on foreigners in South Africa. Arising from an emergency meeting in Benin City the group led by its coordinator, Mr George Legeman described it as highly reprehensible.

See full press statement below.

We the entire members of Edo Like Mind Movement,ELM strongly condemn the beastly act of South Africans in the killing of innocent Nigerians and other nationals in recent violent xenophobic attacks.

It is a worrisome development that the black race which is supposed to rally together and defend itself from external aggression can have a member within its fold taking up arms against his brothers. Not only is this highly reprehensible, but it is also barbaric, inexcusable and a crime to humanity. There are fundamental human rights to live and earn a living. We find this unwholesome attack unacceptable and unpardonable.

This attack should be put to an abrupt end with the perpetrators brought to book.

We demand full compensation to the families of those that lost their loved ones and equally compensation to business owners for businesses lost.

The South African government should accept full responsibility of this dastardly act and pledge in strong terms that this incidence would never rear its ugly head again.

It is indeed shameful that South Africa which was at the receiving end of generosity from most African countries in their darkest days of Apartheid could pay nationals of these countries with such a wicked and heartless act of violence.

However this inhumane and despicable act this is, we appeal on our fellow Nigerians and other nationals not to take laws into their hands. We should not return their hatred with violence.

We want to use this medium in commending the Federal Government for a swift response and the stringent measures it has taken so far against South Africa. The Federal Government should also go further in identifying the victims of these unfortunate attacks and reach out to them with financial and material aid. We expect the Federal Government to do the needful and slam harsh necessary diplomatic sanctions on South Africa.

Long Live the Federal Republic Of Nigeria

Long Live Edo Like Movement
