Edo Residents Applaud Court Ruling Restraining NASS From Interfering In EDHA,Urge Obaseki To Intensify Developmental Strides 


Some Edo State residents have hailed the ruling of both the High court sitting in Port Harcourt and Abuja over the order restraining the National Assembly from taking over the functions of Edo State House Of Assembly.

Recall that an high court sitting in Port-Harcourt  stopped Governor Godwin Obaseki from issuing a fresh proclamation for the inauguration of the 7th session of the state’s House of Assembly and also a Federal High Court in Abuja has asked parties to a suit challenging the alleged plans by the National Assembly to interfere in the affairs of the Edo state House of Assembly not to take any further actions.

A cross-section of Edo residents spoken to expressed their joy with the court ruling saying it would douse the rising political tension in the State and make the government focused on delivering on its promises to its citizens.

Mr Joshua Ugiabe who was visibly elated said it was gladdening that the judiciary has given such a ruling which would definitely return normalcy to the functions and duties of the already constituted house of assembly.

This would serve as a tonic for the Frank Okiye led EDHA to continue their legislative functions he said.

In the words of Hon Oshio Kelly-Daniel “, this is the right step to go, next is an experte order restraining NASS from taking over the assembly.NO MAN IS GOD”

Why are all these people hell-bent on destabilizing the peace of our State? every Governor has the right to work with a friendly Parliament in seeing to the development of his state, but instead, these so-called party leaders want to cripple the state. The judiciary is indeed the hope of the common man’

A resident in Auchi, Edo North, Mr John Yakubu said the present crisis in EDHA is needless, unwarranted and a deliberate attempt by some few aggrieved party members to deny the Governor a second term by way of making his tenure ungovernable. Yes, they are aggrieved that state resources cant be shared, as usual, they are aggrieved that thugs are no longer celebrated on the streets of Benin, they are aggrieved that sanity has returned to the system so many aggression but the State must come first.

Let the other members-elect that have refused to make themselves available for inauguration please consider the State first and do the needful. People voted them for quality representation they should please live up to expectations from their constituents and join their colleagues in making laws for the State and engaging the Executive in delivery of democracy dividends, he further said.

Others said that this should be an opportunity for the Governor to focus and reach out to the aggrieved members of the party to join hands with him in continuation of the giant developmental strides currently witnessed in the State.

The Senate has said in a statement that it would not be appealing the judgement.
