Stray Bullet K!lls 400-Level IBB University Student In Niger State

Isma’il Ishaq Magaji, a 400-level student of the Department of Public Administration at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBUL), Niger State, has reportedly died after being struck by a stray bullet during a land dispute.

According to a statement issued by the university’s Deputy Registrar, Information, Alhaji Baba Akote, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria in Lapai on Saturday, September 19, 2026, Magaji was hit by the bullet in his hometown of Wawa, Borgu Local Government Area of the state.

The statement said the incident occurred amid a dispute over land in the community, resulting in the death of the undergraduate.

Reacting to the incident, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Mohammed Sulaiman, expressed condolences to Magaji’s family, friends, classmates and associates.

Sulaiman described the incident as distressing and a painful loss to the entire university community.

He prayed for Almighty Allah to forgive the deceased’s shortcomings and grant him eternal rest, while asking God to give his family and loved ones the strength to cope with the loss.

The Vice-Chancellor also appealed to communities involved in the dispute to embrace dialogue and exercise restraint, stressing the need to prioritise peaceful coexistence and prevent further loss of lives and bloodshed.
