The sit-at-home protest, enforced by a faction of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Anambra, Enugu, Imo, Abia, and Ebonyi states, began in 2021 to demand the release of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, who is currently detained by the Department of State Services (DSS) and facing terrorism-related charges.

Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah had previously estimated that the sit-at-home protest was causing a loss of over N10 billion to the state’s economy every Monday.
