How Obaseki Has Been Humiliating Me – Edo Deputy Gov Opens Up

Obaseki Shaibu

The longstanding cold war between Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki and his deputy, Philip Shaibu, erupted into the public eye recently, with Shaibu revealing that he has faced continuous humiliation from Obaseki over the past month. He even claimed that the governor planned to impeach him through the State House of Assembly.

However, Shaibu received some immediate relief after seeking intervention from the Federal High Court in Abuja, which ordered the maintenance of the status quo until further notice. The court directed all parties involved to refrain from taking any actions until the matter is properly addressed.

According to Shaibu, the tension between him and the governor arose when he expressed his intention to contest the next governorship election in the state under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Obaseki allegedly denied him the opportunity to function in his official capacity and threatened to withdraw his security details.

Shaibu filed a suit seeking various orders, including restraining the defendants from taking any steps to impeach him or initiate any inquiries for his removal from office. He also requested an injunction against the withdrawal of his security details and interference with his official duties.

The Edo State Government, however, refuted Shaibu’s claims, asserting that Obaseki only advised him to postpone his governorship aspirations to prioritize good governance. The government official suggested that Shaibu’s discomfort stemmed from the realization that the PDP’s zoning formula for the next election might not favor him. The source further alleged that Shaibu had been in talks with the APC to facilitate his return to the party.

In summary, the ongoing conflict between Governor Obaseki and Deputy Governor Shaibu has come to the fore, with legal actions taken to address the situation and allegations of political ambition and party affiliations playing a significant role in the dispute.
