BREAKING: Kremlin Reacts As President Bazoum Calls For The US And International Community To Intervene And Restore Constitutional Order In Niger
The Kremlin has expressed its skepticism about any involvement of non-regional powers, such as the United States, in Niger following the recent military coup in the West African nation. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that non-regional intervention is unlikely to improve the situation and urged a swift return to constitutional normality without endangering lives.
Niger’s overthrown president, Mohamed Bazoum, had called on the international community, including the US, to intervene and restore constitutional order. However, the Kremlin believes that such intervention may not have a positive impact.

The situation in Niger has been a cause for concern for the Kremlin, though the Wagner mercenary group boss, Yevgeny Prigozhin, appeared to support the coup and promote his services.
A team of mediators from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) left Niamey without meeting coup leader General Abdourahamane Tchiani. Nigerian president Bola Tinubu, the head of ECOWAS, also sent a separate delegation to discuss the situation in Niger with the leaders of Libya and Algeria.
ECOWAS has imposed sanctions and given a one-week ultimatum for the return of Bazoum to power. The regional bloc has also mentioned the possibility of a military intervention if necessary.
Niger holds strategic significance for various nations, including the United States, China, Europe, and Russia, due to its uranium and oil reserves and its role in the war against rebels in the Sahel region.
As a result of the coup, several Western countries have cut aid to Niger, a nation heavily reliant on foreign assistance for a significant portion of its annual budget and one of the world’s poorest countries.
