Insecurity: Adamawa Moves 12 NECO Exam Centres [See Affected Schools]

The Adamawa State Government has announced the relocation of 12 National Examinations Council (NECO) examination centres across the state to safer locations, following rising security concerns in the North-East region.

According to Ireporter Online, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Human Development, Hajiya Aisha Mohammed Umar, said the decision became necessary after the recent abduction of students and teachers in neighbouring Borno State on June 29, 2026, an incident that heightened fears over the safety of examination candidates, invigilators, supervisors, and NECO officials.

She explained that the relocation was a preventive security measure designed to ensure the safety of all stakeholders while maintaining the smooth conduct of the ongoing NECO examinations. Umar added that the affected centres have been temporarily moved to safer schools within the state, stressing that the arrangement will remain in place until the security situation improves.

The affected centres include Government Day Secondary School, Kwabapale, now relocated to Government Day Secondary School, Michika; Government Day Secondary School, Kuburshosho to Government Day Secondary School, Watu; Government Day Secondary School, Kirchinga to Government Day Secondary School, Shuwa; Government Day Secondary School, Wagga to Government Day Secondary School, Madagali; Government Secondary School, Hausari, Michika to Government Day Secondary School, Watu; Government Day Secondary School, Shuwa to Government Day Secondary School, Madagali; Government Day Secondary School, Guyaku to Government Day Secondary School, Gombi; Government Day Secondary School, Dzangola to Government Day Secondary School, Gombi; Government Day Secondary School, Garaha to Government Secondary School, Kwabaktina; Government Day Secondary School, Mukuvinyi to Government Day Secondary School, Hildi; Government Day Secondary School, Gawkilba to Government Day Secondary School, Gashala; and Government Secondary School, Maki to Government Day Secondary School, Gashala in Hong Local Government Area.

The ministry called on school authorities, community leaders, NECO officials, and members of the public to comply fully with the directive to ensure a smooth transition. It further reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to safeguarding students and maintaining uninterrupted academic activities in a secure learning environment.
