Shettima, Gowon, Governors Honour Buhari At Remembrance Event

According to Ireporter Online, the remembrance ceremony, held at the Nigerian Army Conference Centre in Asokoro, attracted political leaders, traditional rulers, members of the diplomatic community, former government officials, and close associates of the late president.

Buhari’s widow, former First Lady Aisha Buhari, attended the event alongside their children and other members of the family, as they joined dignitaries to pay tribute to the former Nigerian leader.

The gathering also featured former members of Buhari’s cabinet, past and serving governors, lawmakers, diplomats, religious leaders, and retired as well as serving military chiefs who came together to honour his memory.

Several former presidential aides who served during Buhari’s administration were also present at the solemn occasion, reflecting on his years of service and contributions to Nigeria.

The memorial event featured prayers, tributes, and reflections on Buhari’s leadership journey, governance style, and the impact of his administration on the country.

A commemorative book titled “Tributes and Condolences in Honour of Muhammadu Buhari” was also unveiled during the ceremony. The publication contains messages of condolence and tributes from world leaders, government officials, and other prominent personalities following Buhari’s passing.

Buhari died on July 13, 2025, at the age of 82, after a prolonged illness at a medical facility in London, United Kingdom.

He served as Nigeria’s democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023, after previously governing the country as a military Head of State between 1983 and 1985.

Following his death, Buhari’s remains were brought back to Nigeria and buried in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, in line with Islamic burial traditions.
