Edo Assembly Speaks On Impeaching Deputy Governor Shaibu

The Edo State House of Assembly has urged the residents of the state to disregard any claims of an impending impeachment of the Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, by the lawmakers.

The Speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, made this announcement during a visit by the 24 members of the House of Assembly to Governor Godwin Obaseki at the Government House in Benin City.

Agbebaku clarified that he had not received any instruction from Governor Obaseki to initiate an impeachment process against Shaibu. He emphasized that the rumors of impeachment were baseless and unfounded, dismissing them as “from the pit of hell.”

He further detailed that he had personally approached the governor to address the matter, and Governor Obaseki confirmed that no such directive had been given.

Agbebaku also reached out to the deputy governor himself to reassure him that there were no impeachment plans in the Assembly.

The purpose of the lawmakers’ visit to the governor was to reaffirm their support for him and assure him of their commitment to successfully completing their term. Agbebaku emphasized that the 24 members of the Edo State House of Assembly were united in their determination to work together with the governor for the betterment of the state and its people.

Governor Obaseki, in response, stated that his administration’s primary focus remains on the state’s developmental projects. He assured that he would not be distracted from delivering the promised benefits of democracy to the people of Edo State. He highlighted the importance of positive development and expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of federal roads in the state, which has significantly impacted the lives of the residents.
