African Union Suspends Gabon’s Membership
The African Union’s Peace and Security Council has decided to “immediately suspend” Gabon following the military coup in the country this week.
The council strongly condemned the military takeover and suspended Gabon’s participation in all AU activities.

The coup occurred after disputed elections in which President Ali Bongo Ondimba was declared the winner, ending the Bongo family’s six-decade rule.
The situation has raised concerns in the region, with Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu calling it a “contagion of autocracy.” The new transitional president, General Brice Oligui Nguema, will be sworn in on Monday.
