BREAKING: Gabon Coup Leader Sworn In As Interim President
General Brice Oligui Nguema, who led a coup that toppled Gabon’s 55-year-old dynasty, was sworn in as interim president on Monday.
He promised to hold “free… (and) transparent elections” after an unspecified period.

Oligui, head of the elite Republican Guard, led the coup last week against President Ali Bongo Ondimba, whose family had ruled since 1967. O
ligui pledged to preserve the republican regime and democracy’s achievements.
He plans to hold free and transparent elections after a transitional period, as well as amnesty “prisoners of conscience.” Western countries and organizations have condemned the coup, citing concerns over election irregularities.
