BREAKING: Court Issues Arrest Warrant For Former Deputy Governor (DETAILS)

A bench warrant has been issued by an Akure Magistrate Court for the apprehension of the former deputy governor of Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi.

The court has directed that Agboola be presented in court or provide his statement on November 24 regarding the allegation of theft.

Agboola stands accused of obtaining a new Toyota Camry valued at N5.4 million through deceitful means and committing theft in May 2018. The Commissioner of Police sought this bench warrant to compel Agboola’s appearance in court concerning these charges.

Meanwhile, two former associates of Agboola, Ogunmusi Samuel and Akintoye Olatunji, have been brought before the court in connection with the car Agboola is alleged to have taken from Segun Adetuwo, also known as Showboy.

Ogunmusi asserted in his statement that Agboola directed him to accompany Akintoye to Adetuwo’s place to collect the car. He further stated that he received a black Toyota Camry XLE from Adetuwo and left without making any payment.

The prosecutor, Emmanuel Tanimowo, informed the court that Agboola did not respond to the invitation to provide his account of the incident.

The charge no: MA/C/2/26/C 2023 reads inter alia: “That you Akintoye Olatunji, Ogunmusi Samuel, and others now at large sometimes in the month of May 2018 at Automart Akure in the Akure magisterial district did conspire with yourselves to commit felony to wit: obtaining by false pretence and stealing and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 516 of the criminal code cap 37, vol 1 Lawsof Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

“That you Akintoye Olatunji, Ogunmusi Samuel and other now at large on same date, and place in the aforementioned magisterial district did fraudulently convert one Toyota Camry XLE valued Five Million, Four Hundred Thousand Naira(N5,400,000) property of one Segun Adetuwo to your own and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 383, and punishable under section 390(9) of the criminal code cap 37. Vol. 1laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.”

Barrister Omolegbon Odunsola, representing Akintoye, mentioned that he has been actively attempting to contact both Agboola and Adetuwo in order to explore the possibility of resolving the matter outside of court.

However, Alex Olademehin, the counsel for Adetuwo, stated that Agboola insisted that he should either present himself at the police station to provide a written statement or appear personally in court.

The presiding Magistrate Taiwo Lebi directed that Agboola or his statement must be presented in court on the forthcoming adjournment date. Further proceedings have been adjourned to November 24, 2023.
