Apart from Ajaka and Ododo, who formerly held the position of Auditor General of Local Government in Kogi under Governor Yahaya Bello, other strong contenders in the race include Leke Abejide of the African Democratic Party (ADC) and Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

On Saturday, Dino Melaye raised concerns about “filled result sheets” in the Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area, calling for the suspension of the exercise due to reported incidents of violence and vote buying. Consequently, INEC suspended the election in nine wards in the local government area.

Similar to Kogi, governorship elections were conducted in Bayelsa State and Imo State on Saturday. In Imo, Governor Hope Uzodimma of the APC emerged victorious, defeating Samuel Anyanwu of the PDP, Labour Party (LP)’s Nneji Achonu, and 15 other opponents. Uzodimma secured 540,308 votes, surpassing PDP’s Anyanwu with 71,503 votes and LP’s Achonu with 64,081 votes.
