Ex-commissioner Replies Otti Over Claims On New Government House

John Kalu, a former commissioner for information in Abia State, has responded to claims by the state governor, Alex Otti, regarding his refusal to move into the new Government House in the state. Mr. Kalu, who served under the administration of former governor Okezie Ikpeazu, criticized Otti’s actions and described them as “media propaganda.”

He defended the report published by PREMIUM TIMES, stating that it was a product of independent findings from a painstaking investigation conducted in October.

Kalu refuted Otti’s claim that Ikpeazu’s administration commissioned and handed over the new Government House without completing it.

He alleged that Otti deliberately allowed the complex to go into disrepair and lack maintenance due to his reluctance to associate with anything associated with Ikpeazu. Kalu also found Otti’s claim of discovering a document showing Ikpeazu allegedly diverting N500 million to his private pocket laughable, stating that Otti had not taken any action to prove the allegation.

The former commissioner highlighted the irony of Otti claiming to prefer running the government from his private residence to save costs, while the Abia State Third Quarter 2023 Budget Performance Report revealed that Otti spent about N927 million on meals and honorarium/sitting allowances within three months.
