Igbo Integration Into Mainstream Nigerian Politics Has Begun – Shettima Declares

Vice President Kashim Shettima has announced the initiation of the process to integrate the Igbo community into mainstream Nigerian politics.

This statement was relayed in a release signed by Levinus Nwabughiogu, the Chief Press Secretary to Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu on Sunday.

Shettima made these remarks following the conferment of traditional titles upon him and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by His Royal Highness, Igwe Dr. Robert Chukwudilim Eze (Okofia VI), the Igwe Ukpo and Clan Head of Dunuokofia Ancient Kingdom in Ukpo, Dunukofia Local Government of Anambra State.

During the ceremony, President Tinubu was honored with the chieftaincy title of “Eze Udo of Igbo Land,” translating to “King of Peace in Igbo Land,” while Shettima received the title “Enyi Ndigbo,” signifying “A friend of Igbo people.” Shettima, also representing President Tinubu, assured that the administration recognizes the challenges faced by Ndi Igbo and is committed to addressing them diligently.

He said, “With our leaders like Senator Hope Uzodinma, Senator Dave Umahi, Hon. Ben Kalu, the process of integrating Ndi Igbo in the mainstream of Nigerian politics has commenced. Senator Ifeanyi Uba has just joined APC.

“Wherever you go in this country, if you do not see an Igbo man, you better run away from that place. Why won’t I identify with you? Rest assured that Ndi Igbo are the heartbeat of the Nigeria nation. We will work assiduously to see that Ndi Igbo are well represented”.

In the announcement, Kalu extended congratulations to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima for receiving Igbo chieftaincy titles. He emphasized that conferring these traditional titles would strengthen national unity and integration.

Kalu praised President Tinubu’s administration for fostering a sense of inclusion for the Igbo community through various appointments.

The Deputy Speaker expressed his delight that the bestowal of traditional titles coincided with the introduction of a new peace initiative called the Peace in South East Project (PISE-P). This initiative aims to address security challenges and other sociological issues in the region through non-kinetic approaches, contributing to the restoration of peace.
