The retired senior military officer, who would have turned 66 this year, met a tragic end when assailants brutally shot him in his palace. The assailants, who also kidnapped the monarch’s wife and two locals, seamlessly integrated into the town by finalizing their murderous scheme over drinks in a popular local beer parlor.

A reliable source from Koro, speaking anonymously to Saturday PUNCH, disclosed that the murderers spent hours at the relaxation center, posing as regular patrons, before enlisting the help of a salesgirl. Manipulating her, they gained access to the palace under the pretense of paying respects to the monarch and discussing town affairs.

The assailants’ cold-blooded execution has left the town in fear and mourning. The town is now on high alert, with a team of soldiers dispatched to scour forests in Kwara, Kogi, and Ekiti states to apprehend the perpetrators.

The immediate junior brother to the monarch, Adelaja Aremu, shared the harrowing details of the attack. Gunmen stormed the palace, demanding the monarch’s compliance, and when he refused, they callously shot him. Despite the tragic incident, the family remains resilient, and soldiers are actively pursuing the criminals.

The audacious act is not an isolated incident for Koro, as bandits have been terrorizing the community. Adelaja expressed frustration over the lack of intervention despite previous reports to the police about bandit activities in the area.

Amidst this tragedy, the abductors have demanded a ransom of N100 million for the release of the monarch’s wife and other captives. The family member of the monarch revealed that the abductors set a 48-hour deadline for the payment, threatening dire consequences if not met.

As the town grapples with grief and uncertainty, the Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, condemned the killing and urged security agencies to spare no resources in bringing the perpetrators to justice. Former Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki also expressed shock and called for enhanced security measures to protect lives and property in Kwara State.

The town of Koro mourns the loss of its leader while grappling with the harsh reality that a calculated plot, hatched in a seemingly innocent beer parlor, led to the tragic demise of their revered monarch.
